Join us for a free webinar that will provide tips and tools for effective youth engagement in commercial tobacco prevention. Presenters will share recommendations from the CDC, first-hand stories of success, and tools available that meet state education requirements. The Association for Nonsmokers-Minnesota’s Tools for Schools curriculum will also be shared, including examples of effective social media, newsletters, and school policy guidance. There is no cost to register to this webinar.

Attendees will leave the webinar able to:

  • Understand the latest trends in vaping and nicotine consumption among Minnesota youth.
  • Recognize vaping-related health risks and current usage rates.
  • Identify strategies and tools available for school and community prevention efforts.

About the Presenters

Elyse Levine-Less, JD, MPH, Executive Director, Tobacco-Free Alliance, TFA. Serving as TFA’s executive director since 2017, Elyse’s main work is community-based commercial tobacco prevention programming and policy advocacy, with a specific focus on e-cigarette assessment, education, and advocacy to reduce youth access, use, and related harm. She conducts workshops and training sessions for diverse audiences, including youth, parents, educators, and policymakers, working closely with her team and community partners. Additionally, she trains teens to become peer-to-peer vaping prevention educators and vaping prevention policy advocates. Elyse is committed to building a tobacco-free future, striving to build a healthier environment for young people and communities.

Katie Engman, MCHES, Program Director, Association for Nonsmokers – MN. Since 2002, Katie has coordinated and supported diverse school- and community-based tobacco prevention programming and advocacy work. Katie is currently working to reduce the amount of tobacco advertising and marketing aimed at youth. Much of Katie’s career has been focused on youth prevention, education, advocacy and engagement resulting in national awards for students. Some of her policy accomplishments include: numerous tobacco-free park policies, a smoke-free workplace ordinance in Ramsey County, an imitation tobacco ordinance and sign ordinance updates in St. Paul, flavored tobacco restrictions in multiple metro communities, numerous city ordinance updates to reflect the changing landscape of tobacco. She also directs the North Suburban Tobacco Compliance Project working to reduce youth access to commercial sources of tobacco. This is a one of a kind model with coordination with cities, law enforcement and youth. Outside the office one might find Katie in the middle of a lake, having arrived there via swimming, boating, or paddling. She also enjoys planning family adventures, such as trips to the beach and cheering on her kids at their activities.
