About
The Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training is MPRC’s foundational course. It is grounded in current research and designed to provide up-to-date, evidence-based information to the prevention field, and is a 40-hour training (including a pre-training online session).
Who is the training for?
People who are new to prevention work, those working in related fields—public health, education, law enforcement, youth work, faith communities, healthcare—and coalition members working to improve community health.
What does the training provide?
- Skills to implement effective, data-driven prevention programs, practices, and policies that reduce health disparities and improve wellness.
- 31 hours of participation eligible for the Certified Prevention Professional credential. Also approved for credits from the Board of Social work.

Cost
$250 – includes training manual and breakfast, lunch and snacks each training day
Not included: evening meals, hotel, transportation, or fees associated with applying for and submitting the CPP certificate
Limited scholarships are available to cover registration cost. Those working in prevention-related fields, operating without prevention funding, or serving minority communities are encouraged to contact us.
Contact Hours
This program is designated for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) to receive up to 31 total Category I continuing education contact hours. There are no maximum advanced-level continuing education contact hours available for this training.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Courtyard Mankato Hotel & Event Center for this event.
